I would definitely use Load Range E. I read that 8pr load index is right. That truck would walk away from a horse Chevy and did several times for a few city blocks. The measure is cm.

I'm sure you can hot rod a IH engine, but you'll be on the same track as the Rodders back in the day modifying the engines. That's what you do with a Chevy.
